From Struggle to Strength.
Lucille’s journey with her cochlear implant has been one of perseverance and support from many caring individuals and organizations. When she came to Hear 4 Hope, she was facing significant challenges in her communication. She relied heavily on a transcription app to understand conversations, as hearing clearly was a struggle.
“I couldn’t really hear, so I would just read the text on my phone to understand what people were saying,” Lucille shared.

Rehabilitation was slow without consistent opportunities to practice and receive guidance. That’s when Hear 4 Hope stepped in to provide the personalized support she needed. Lucille was paired with a dedicated volunteer who worked with her weekly, helping her rebuild her confidence and improve her communication skills.
“Having someone to practice with made a world of difference,” Lucille said. Through regular sessions and tailored exercises, she began relying less on the app and more on her own abilities.
“Now I feel more connected to people,” Lucille explained. “It’s made a big impact on my quality of life.”
While Lucille is quick to acknowledge the support of others in her journey, she also recognizes the pivotal role Hear 4 Hope played in her progress. Her story highlights the importance of having the right resources, encouragement, and rehabilitation when navigating life with hearing loss.
